Publix is on the move again, and if you live in the Southeast, there's a good chance one of these new locations might be closer than you think. Five new stores are scheduled to open before the end of April, spanning three states and bringing that signature Publix experience to fresh corners of the region. Let's dive in.

Here's the thing - Publix doesn't do things halfway. The grocery giant is set to open five new stores before late April, with three of them landing right in Florida, the brand's home turf. The remaining two are headed to Tennessee and North Carolina, giving even more communities access to one of the most recognizable names in American grocery shopping.

It's a steady, deliberate rollout rather than a splashy overnight blitz. Honestly, that measured approach is part of what makes Publix feel reliable rather than reckless. The dates are already confirmed, the communities are ready, and the shelves are almost stocked.

As of early 2026, Publix already operates more than 1,400 stores spread across eight states, including Florida, Georgia, Alabama, and Virginia. That's not a small operation by any stretch of the imagination. It's actually kind of staggering when you stop to think about it.

The continued expansion makes a lot of sense when you consider the broader backdrop. Grocery prices remain a genuine concern for millions of households across the country, and people are paying closer attention than ever to where they shop and how much they spend. Having a trusted, familiar brand open nearby isn't just convenient - for many families, it genuinely matters.

Founded back in 1930 in Winter Haven, Florida, Publix has had nearly a century to figure out what shoppers actually want. What started as a single store has grown into one of the largest employee-owned companies in the entire United States, with over 260,000 workers holding a stake in the company's success. That ownership model, I think, is a big reason why the in-store experience tends to feel different from your average chain.

The recognition hasn't gone unnoticed either. USA TODAY's 2025 Best Grocery Store list placed Publix at No. 9 nationally, a ranking that reflects both quality and customer satisfaction. For a regional chain rooted in the Southeast, cracking a national top ten list is no small feat. It speaks to something real.

The five new stores are rolling out on a staggered schedule, starting in late March and running through the final day of April. First up is Farragut, Tennessee, opening on March 26, followed by St. Augustine, Florida on that same date.

Spring Hill, Florida comes next on April 2. Then Durham, North Carolina joins the roster on April 11. The final opening of this wave lands on April 30 in Winter Haven, Florida - which is, fittingly, the very city where Publix was born nearly a century ago.
