- 6 cups baking apples peeled and sliced
- ⅔ cup white granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- ⅛ teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter cut into 4 or 5 pieces
-
Move the top oven rack to the center position of your oven.
-
Preheat your oven to 450℉
-
In a large bowl, add in the flour, salt, and vegetable shortening. Then mix together with a hand mixer. Slowly add in the ice-cold water until you can form a ball and the dough binds.
-
Place the bowl in the fridge and let it chill for approximately 30 minutes.

In another large bowl, add in the sliced apples, sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Toss gently to combine everything together.
-
Then remove the bowl of pie dough from the fridge and divide into 2 even sections.

Lay one of the dough balls on a lightly floured surface. Then roll each ball out into a 10-to-11-inch diameter if making a 9-inch pie.
-
Line the pie pan with one of the crusts. Then top the crust with the apple pie filling. Then layer on the top crust and crimp the edges all around the pie pan.
-
Next, cut 4 or 5 vents into the top crust with a sharp knife. Then place a small chunk of butter into each vented hole.
-
Either cover the edges of the pie with a pie crust shield or pieces of aluminum foil
-

-
Once the pie is done, remove from the oven and cool for a minimum of 15 minutes. Slice, serve, and top with some Vanilla No Churn Ice Cream.
